Kyoshi Terry L. Bryan Ph.D.
Internationally known, Terry Bryan is a successful businessman, writer,
and martial artist. A high level Black Belt of the martial arts who has
earned an undergraduate degree in social work and child psychology, as well
as, a masters degree in education, Terry Bryan has developed martial arts
and self protection programs for a number of schools, military commands, and
police departments around the country. Master Bryan is one of only a handful
of people in the entire country to have earned a Ph.D. in the martial arts
and has been recognized as a "Living Legend" by the Royal Family
of Japan.
Born and raised in the hills of Tennessee, Master Bryan discovered his
interest in the martial arts in junior high school. He trained throughout
his two military tours in Southeast Asia. Injured in the line of duty, Bryan
used his martial art skills and discipline to rehabilitate a leg doctors
told him he would never use again without a cane or crutch. In fact, he went
on to a competitive career; winning over 300 first place awards in the black
belt division in tournaments around the country. Retired from active
competition and from his job as General Secretary for the official governing
body for the sport of karate in the United States, Master Bryan now
concentrates on local family and youth programs in El Paso County.
Having taught the martial arts since 1970, Master Bryan accepted the
position as head karate coach at the Air Force Academy in 1983. Under his
direction, the Air Force team was undefeated against Army and Navy and many
of the cadets earned national ranking during his tenure. A strong desire to
work with young people led Master Bryan to establish a national headquarters
for his organization in Colorado Springs. Master Bryan opened his American
Black Belt Academy in Colorado Springs during May of 1990. He currently
oversees over 15 locations in Colorado Springs and other schools around the
country. From his headquarters he became a nationally recognized speaker on
motivation and success training through the martial arts. His association
now has students teaching all over the United States and in over 25
countries around the world. Master Bryan’s Streetwise Success Program
combines classical martial arts, modern sports psychology, and proven
success principles into one success program. This program has been approved
by the Colorado Department of Education as an accredited class and is now
being offered in many high schools in El Paso County.
Master Bryan is one of only a handful of people in the world to have
been awarded a masters level teaching certificate from both the Ministry of
Education in China and the World Karate Federation. While continuing to
teach high-level black belts who have their own schools, Mr. Bryan has cut
back on his international travel in order to concentrate on the local
Colorado Springs community and specifically the Streetwise Success Program.
Master Bryan's knowledge of how people learn and how to teach in a
non-threatening manner is a key element to his great success in developing
quality instructors. Learning how to avoid physical conflict and trouble,
and using those same principles to bring success to other areas of ones
life, is what studying the martial arts under a master instructor is all
about.
Mr. Bryan is recognized as a master instructor in over 150 countries
around the world and carries the title of Kyoshi - Teacher of Teachers. Over
30 years experience in the martial arts and a strong academic background
make Master Bryan a great teacher for those fortunate enough to obtain his
services. This year, Master Bryan was challenged by Ripley’s Believe It Or
Not to show his martial arts skills by catching a speeding arrow on national
TV. He not only did as they asked, but went on and performed it again –
blindfolded!
